Pelosi lashes out at reporter over gun control

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi lashed out near the Capitol on Wednesday after a reporter asked her a question about pending gun control legislation.

Regarding whether she believed the members of the House of Representatives should have cut short the August recess to “keep the flame lit” on gun reform, Pelosi said, “No, absolutely not.”

“We did our job,” the California Democrat continued. “The Senate was supposed to come back. Why don’t you all get that straight?”

“The Senate did not come back to pass the bill,” she reiterated sharply, angrily waving her hand. “I’m getting very angry about the silliness of these questions.”

Referring to a set of gun-related bills passed February by the Democrat-controlled House, Pelosi blamed the upper chamber for continuing gun violence. “Lives are at stake! Senator McConnell is standing in the way. We passed our bill in February.”

“Don’t ask me what we haven’t done,” Pelosi continued, thrusting her finger at the reporter. “We have done it … if you are annoyed with my impatience, it’s because people are dying because Senator McConnell hasn’t acted.”

Pelosi then directed the reporter to ask Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell why he hadn’t prematurely ended the Senate recess to advance the bills passed by the House. “Why don’t you go ask him if he has any regrets for all the people who died because he hasn’t acted?”
