Times are tough, especially if you’re resisting the Trump-led white supremacist fascist recrudescence around the world. White terror is on the rise—globally—and all those bestowed with a gentle vision of progress must take the helm to steer America away from the rocky shores of nationalism on the tumultuous sea of change.
Despite comprising 91% of the construction work force, males—white males, in particular—have arrogated to themselves a hegemonic, yet phallic, stranglehold over blue collar industries. Let’s not forget it was the change-averse Rust Belt blue collar white males who voted in Cheeto Hitler; I mean, how fragile could they be, amirite? So what if their neighborhoods are unrecognisable—that’s good, that’s progress! So what if their industries have been outsourced to developing nations who pay meagre wages to their employees—we need to share the wealth. And look, the opioid crisis is simply a latent side effect to slavery and colonialism. You reap what you sow.
Today, a blue collar worker was put in his place by an academic for his antiquated gender stereotypes: one that precludes the idea of women engaging in physical labor. It is the current year, after all. Women are just as physically capable as men to haul around heavy loads unaided. And the reason why more women aren’t in construction jobs is due to the backward nature and gender-restrictive hiring processes of this absurdly male-dominated industry. Just like little boys who oh so assiduously erect (see, more phallic imagery) their forts only to hang a “no girls allowed” sign outside, literally causing emotional trauma, as we drift into a gender-inclusive society. Evil capitalists will probably cite differences in output as to why more women aren’t hired; I say, if given the chance, women will outdo all men if the industry was exclusively run by women—plus it’ll be done with more panache, flair, and a woman’s touch. Touché.
Moving forward, despite the negative reception on social media to this schooling—of somebody who clearly missed school—it was a necessary lesson to be given: we cannot sit idly by and allow for the patriarchy to continue to cement its position of power over women. In order to continue to deconstruct a social construct which was been layered over millennia; changes—radical changes—need to be made on a daily basis. The average joe simply cannot gleefully go about his day without giving a second thought to the implications of his toxic masculine lifestyle.
This is why we’re needed more than ever to denounce actions which keep this oppression system intact. We cannot march towards equality without dismantling social constructs or shift consciousness without constantly reminding people to abide by impossibly politically correct standards imposed by their moral superiors—us.
