Today it was revealed that YouTube was tightening its rules on hate speech, in an effort to remove as much ‘harmful’ content as possible. YouTuber ‘ThuleanPerspective’, who had amassed a six-figure subscriber count, had his account terminated for “due to multiple or severe violations of YouTube’s policy prohibiting hate speech.”
YouTuber ‘Dash Star’ tweeted out that YouTube’s explanation for demonetizing his “entire channel was over liberal use of CAPITAL FUCKING LETTERS. MOTHER F$%#@ INSANITY!!!”

YouTube has come increasingly under the microscope from content creators and users alike, with accusations of crafty tactics to throttle the potential reach of content creators in order to silence them, without giving them the opportunity to appeal.
The actual banning & deletion is bad, but I find the nefarious tactics behind the scenes of throttling, shadowbanning & quietly demonitising worse somehow. It’s so sneaky and underhanded. At least you can appeal a strike or a ban, you can’t complain about your viewer count.

Many content creators have used alternative platforms to YouTube to mitigate any potential censorship of their work in the future.
Concerns about the censorious direction taken by YouTube have been largely ignored.
